The Society's roots date back to 1859 with the first concert being given by the Buckingham Amateur Philharmonic Society in the Town Hall on Tuesday 20 December. During its 152 years existence, the Society has had several different names with the last change from Buckingham & District Music Society to Buckingham Choral Society taking place on 26 November 1995. Despite also having had what must be a record number of Musical Directors – 30 to date! – the Society has always been fortunate to have been directed and conducted by dedicated and enthusiastic musicians, many of whom have been on the musical staff of Stowe School.
